# Recording in the background

You don't need to keep Meetfy open and your screen on for the entire meeting. Recording continues reliably in the background.

## How it works

1. Start a recording as usual. See [Recording a meeting](https://www.meetfy.ai/en/helpcenter/recordings/recording-a-meeting).
2. Lock your screen or switch to another app, the recording keeps running.
3. A persistent notification (Android) or the recording indicator (iOS) confirms it's still active.
4. Return to Meetfy anytime to check progress or stop the recording.

## Why this matters

Meetings often involve switching apps, checking notes, joining a video call, glancing at a document. Meetfy's background recording means none of that interrupts your audio capture.

## Good to know

- A visible privacy indicator stays on screen or in your notifications the entire time audio is being recorded, so it's always clear a recording is in progress.
- Background recording uses extra battery. If you're running low, consider Meetfy's energy-saving preference. See [Recording and privacy preferences](https://www.meetfy.ai/en/helpcenter/settings/recording-and-privacy-preferences).

## Troubleshooting

- **Recording stopped unexpectedly** : Some devices aggressively restrict background apps to save battery. Check your device's battery-optimization settings and allow Meetfy to run in the background.
