# Choosing a coaching template

Templates tell the coach what kind of conversation you're having, so it knows what to pay attention to from the very first minute.

## Available templates

- **Sales discovery** : early-stage conversations exploring a prospect's needs.
- **Sales closing** : later-stage conversations focused on moving toward a decision.
- **One-on-one** : regular check-ins with a colleague or direct report.
- **Interview** : candidate or expert interviews.
- **Negotiation** : conversations where terms are being discussed and agreed.
- **Conflict** : difficult or tense conversations that need a careful approach.
- **Advisory** : consulting or advice-giving conversations.
- **Listening** : for when you're attending a talk or presentation rather than leading the conversation. See [Using listening mode](https://www.meetfy.ai/en/helpcenter/coaching/using-listening-mode).
- **Custom** : write your own prompt describing exactly what you want the coach to focus on. You can save prompts you use often so you don't have to retype them. See [Saving and reusing your own coaching prompts](https://www.meetfy.ai/en/helpcenter/coaching/saving-and-reusing-your-own-prompts).

## Pick a template

1. When starting a coaching session, you'll be prompted to choose a template.
2. Select the one that matches your conversation, or choose Custom to describe your own focus.
3. Confirm to start the session with that template active.

## Good to know

- You can set a default template in Settings so you don't have to choose one every time. See [Setting your coaching defaults](https://www.meetfy.ai/en/helpcenter/settings/setting-your-coaching-defaults).
- Switching templates only affects new sessions. A session already running keeps the template it started with.
- Custom templates are useful for recurring conversation types that don't fit the built-in options, such as a specific type of client call unique to your work.
